Chris Spiller
Director
Chris is the Director responsible for Building Surveying and is based in the Beckenham office. He has worked at Potter Raper since 2006.
He has been involved in a wide range of both Contract and Professional Surveying Services for Public and Private Sector Clients. Whilst his experience is predominantly residential, he has also managed many other projects in the public and private sectors for a variety of clients at all stages.
As part of his Building Surveying background, Chris specialises in several areas. These include traditional and non-traditional construction types, detailed damp and mould defects analysis reports, heritage and conservation matters, decarbonisation/retrofit and the management of large capital works programmes.
Some recent notable commissions include a non-traditional housing refurbishment contract containing structural, energy efficiency and aesthetic upgrades on behalf of Thurrock Borough Council, the management of Hyde’s defect analysis technical services framework and the repair and partial restoration of Dorset Hall, a Grade II listed Georgian building formerly used by the Suffragette Movement.
For the last 10 years he has also been the Strategic Project Manager for Thurrock Council, overseeing their £100m+ Transforming Homes Capital Works Contract, where he is making provisions to plan a further 5-year programme to build on the successes to date.
Whilst always ensuring knowledge of current legislation, he is continually adapting to changes and leading on necessary innovations. This currently includes the industry’s decarbonisation drive, including residential PAS 2035 and non-residential PAS 2038 retrofit and associated services.
Further breath of experience includes surveys and associated works in connection with the Building Safety Act 2022, with a particular focus on the golden thread and associated electronic data recording.
As well as Chris’ Building Surveying management and leadership duties, he is a strong contributor to ensuring corporate social value responsibilities are fully complied with, often helping to organise and participate in events and other contributions.
Due to his strong technical background, Chris is also responsible for the extensive laser scanning and 2D/3D drawing/modelling services in his department.
Chris enjoys going to the gym, visiting English Heritage sites and studying anything car related.
