Potter Raper assisted me through my time studying by always offering support on assignments when needed and providing beneficial information that could be used across my course over 5 years. The company has given me the practical experience needed to progress successfully by allowing me to study 1 day per week (part time at University) and with this set-up it made the academic process simpler by giving me a broad range of knowledge throughout my studies as I worked on numerous different projects the remaining 4 days per week
Stuart Dyson, Assistant Quantity Surveyor (Beckenham)Here at Potter Raper we have an established track record in training people to become Chartered Quantity or Building Surveyors. We regularly employ School Leavers and Graduates to enter into our Structural Training Programme and provide financial support and practical guidance to assist them to achieve their degree and professional certificates. This is demonstrated by the fact that a number of Directors and Associate Directors have trained at Potter Raper and moved into Senior positions as the company has grown.
We have a number of staff across the offices who act as APC Doctors or Assessors who, along with Supervisors and Counsellors, are able to provide a solid base of knowledge to enable our Surveyors to start their career.
The company has representatives in each office who act/have acted as APC Doctors and/or Assessors along with mentors who are able to provide a solid base of knowledge for a Surveyor to start their career. This includes the following Senior personnel:

David Spiller FRICS
Director (Beckenham & Cambridge)
Nicola Tilbury MRICS
Director (Brighton)
Ryan Appleton FRICS
Associate Director (Colchester)
Yogesh Daworaz FRICS
Associate Director (London)However, we feel that the best way to highlight our commitment to training is demonstrated by the following testimonials from members of staff who have experience of it!
I first joined Potter Raper as a trainee Building Surveyor on a year-out placement away from University. The company immediately assigned me with responsibilities on a wide variety of projects, this helped to build up my confidence and professional experience. The senior members within the office are particularly supportive when it comes to personal development and working within a multi-disciplinary teams environment has broadened my knowledge in both surveying and the general construction industry. Upon completion of my final year at University, I was happy and grateful to re-join Potter Raper as a graduate, especially during a hard recruitment market in the midst of a pandemic. I believe this displays their commitment and loyalty to support staff members who are in the early stages of their careers.
Louis Thompson-Moore, Graduate Building Surveyor (London)Potter Raper has provided a very effective way of boosting my knowledge and gaining first-hand work experience by actively involving us in teams as we work across all stages of a construction project. For me, the combined training at work and university course is the best way to enter this global profession. I have all the support I need from my colleagues and this motivates me more to proactively acquire the skills I need to become a young professional. Working with Potter Raper, I believe that no career is off-limits and I hope to encourage more women and younger generation to fulfil their potential, break stereotypes, and thrive in the construction industry.
