Ceremony marks commencement of Essex County Hospital – Lexden Gardens

We are proud to announce our involvement in a transformative project aimed at delivering new homes at the former Essex County Hospital site in Colchester. The recent ground-breaking ceremony marks the commencement of phase one, dedicated to creating 63 high-quality new homes.

Led by Essex Housing Development LLP (www.essex-housing.co.uk), the housing development arm of Essex County Council, this development aims to breathe new life into the former hospital site, which ceased operations in November 2018. Spanning three phases, the development will deliver a total of 120 new homes, alongside the meticulous restoration of the Grade-II listed main hospital building and other heritage assets. Since obtaining planning permission in July 2020, extensive archaeological investigations and enabling works have taken place.

Paul Denny, Director at Potter Raper, comments, “We are pleased to be appointed as CDM – Principal Designer, Project Managers, and Quantity Surveyors on this fantastic development. We have worked closely with the client and the design team from inspection providing procurement, project phasing, and cost advice to ensure that development meets the clients’ requirements. We are looking forward to seeing the transformation take place, creating much needed vibrant and sustainable residential homes in a prime location.”.
