The building, scheduled to open in 2024, will transform education by providing laboratories for students and researchers, as well as lecture theatres, specialised support laboratories and opportunities for public engagement. It aims to facilitate the university’s schools and public outreach programmes through opportunities for art, exhibitions, lectures and conferences, offering a ‘window into science’.
The new building will comprise 5 storeys and a basement with a gross internal area of 270,000 sq ft.
The work is part of a £4 billion development partnership between the University and Legal & General, which in addition to academic facilities, also aims to provide thousands of new homes for staff and students.
