Client: | Girls’ Day School Trust |
Contract Value: | £15.6m (£1.5m for temporary school) |
Contract Period: | 1 year 3 months |
Contract Type: | JCT Design & Build 2016 |
The building form focuses around a central entrance space and foyer, with west and east wings accommodating the main teaching spaces and larger specialist teaching spaces for creative arts, life sciences, technology and ICT, and music. A new double-height hall supports multiple functions including assembly, sport/PE, performance, and parents/carers events. The building also provides an area on the second floor with potential to expand Sixth Form teaching. This would support the Sixth Form in the adjacent Notting Hill & Ealing High School. Externally a series of high-quality landscaping, play and learning environments were provided, including a welcome garden, science garden, outdoor teaching space and a separate, secure play space for the reception year pupils.
Works included the provision of a temporary school to accommodate staff and students during the construction period and managing all works around a busy live school environment.
The building is highly energy efficient, meeting BREEAM ‘Excellent’, which supports GDST’s drive to achieve Net Zero Carbon.
