Developed by Legal & General and made with the backing of Sky’s owner Comcast, and sister company NBCUniversal, Sky Studios Elstree will enable £3 billion worth of new production investment over the first five years alone and aims to be the most sustainable TV and film production facility in Europe with the goal to reach net zero carbon by 2030.
The new studios comprise a total of 585,483sq ft (54,391m2) gross internal building area and will become home to a host of Sky Originals, created by Sky Studios, as well as major film productions from Universal Pictures, Focus Features and Working Title, and television series from Universal Studio Group. It will also have capacity to host productions from third party producers.
The site is located to the east of Borehamwood Town Centre and it covers an area of approximately 11.6 hectares. It is bounded on the east and west sides by the A1 (Barnet Bypass) and Rowley Lane respectively. The majority of the site is open land, although the western part of the site is mostly hardstanding.
The external site works will include the creation of Base Camp areas, access roads and hardstanding for new utilities connections and areas of parking and storage for cars and cycles. Provision for storage and charging of electric buggies will also be included, any electric buggies are excluded from any cost plans. External works will also include security fencing, gates and turnstiles, soft and hard landscaping, mains services along with foul and surface water drainage.
