Works to the Grade I listed Wilkins Building to form a new exhibition gallery within the Octagon on the ground floor also provided a new focal point for the whole building.

In association with these works, it was proposed to re-open the existing circular opening over the Octagon area.  This involved the installation of new structural glazing over the opening, balustrading and seating to the opening together with the relocation of the statue of St Michael.

Works were also carried out to refurbish the Jeremy Bentham Room adjacent to the Octagon and the bench seating in the cloisters leading to the Octagon.
