Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) Wave 3: Helping you to navigate the process

The UK government has announced the launch of Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) Wave 3 as part of its broader Warm Homes Plan, designed to tackle fuel poverty and improve the energy efficiency of social housing. Following the success of previous funding waves, Wave 3 opened for applications from 30th September 2024, running until 25th November 2024.

This funding offers a significant opportunity for social housing providers, local authorities, and registered providers to upgrade their housing stock, bringing homes up to at least EPC C by 2030. The focus is on a fabric-first approach, prioritising insulation, heat pumps, solar panels, and other measures to ensure cost-effectiveness and long-term efficiency.

Why SHDF Wave 3 is crucial

Fuel poverty continues to affect over 1 million households across the UK, where high energy costs and substandard living conditions are a daily reality. SHDF Wave 3 aims to address this by enabling social housing providers to make homes warmer, more energy-efficient, and affordable for tenants, especially in the current cost-of-living crisis.

This round also introduces funding uplifts for specific measures and property types, offering flexibility to suit various housing needs. While properties upgraded in Wave 2 are ineligible, those from Wave 1 or earlier can still qualify for funding.
