Construction started this week on ‘The Spark’, Legal & General’s second landmark office building on the wider Newcastle Helix development.
The Newcastle Helix is a striking, multi-million pound development which combines commercial and residential space, with research and education facilities. It is one of the largest urban regeneration schemes of its kind in the UK and spans over 9.7 hectares. Once complete, it will provide more than 4,000 jobs, 500,000ft² of office and research facilities and 450 new homes. Works began a couple of years ago and have been led by a partnership between Newcastle City Council, Newcastle University and Legal & General.
Arranged over 12 floors, ‘The Spark’ will deliver approximately 100,000ft² Grade A office space, with retail opportunities at lower floors and extensive external landscaping.
The development is targeting BREEAM “Excellent” and a WiredScore Platinum rating, as well as connecting into a District Energy network that will service the building.
